Testing out Post Pages feature with Blogger in draft

I hope I can turn this into a page with its' own permalink. According to a tutorial I found on , it seems like THE killer feature Blogger has been missing in comparison to WordPress. Adding Post Pages to a Blogspot hosted blog can turn it into a full fledged online blogging platform, with all the benefits of Google cloud hosting and monetization options offered by AdSense and Google affiliate programs. This is where Google truly shines in comparison to other online service providers: It allows anyone, even without a budget, to become an online publisher, equal in potential to even the largest publishers on the web. Blogger in draft as default I've enabled "Blogger in draft" on the blog dashboard and made it the default state of my Blogger editing environment, but so far haven't found a way to turn an existing post into a Page Post. Since this is a new page, I hope it could be turned into a Page Post during the publishing process. Let's see if that works...

Addendum: After publishing the post

Regretfully, I didn't get the anticipated Page Post publishing option. This could be a bug or maybe Google has taken off this feature without prior notice. I posted a question on the Blogger help forum regarding this issue and hope someone directs me to the solution soon. Will update once I get more info on this issue.

Going all the way - Let's play! - Cool video clip

This cool video clip, with visuals by VJ Lior Sade (RGB?), from Tel-Aviv, Israel was produced especially for international AIDS day. I like the visual style and interpretation.

another youtube-based last.fm alternative - qwiji

Found this on YNet - Very cool Israeli startup - qwiji. Their we app allows you to easily publish automatic YouTube playlists, along with a few other services, such as Picasa & Google search results.

I created a YouTube London Elektricity playlist with a fast search for it on the homepage.

Very quick results with easy "skip" functionality built into the interface.

Mission Accomplished - Last.fm replacement found at last

Very exciting times for the VirtualFlavius, as I've just found this amazing last.fm-YouTube mashup - TubeRadio.fm

Kudos to Ben Osborne and Rogerio Mota for this fun and exciting new music player.

A feature request: Please integrate the following social networks into your app:
  • last.fm - let me have my existing playlists according to my Last.fm user please.
  • YouTube - Let me export my playlists to my YouTube account please.
  • Twitter - Automatically tweet a link to your system that plays the currently playing track and/or public playlist - This could bring you tons of new subscribers. Feel free to send me a check by the mail later ;)
  • Facebook - Same thing like with Twitter - Let people share clips and playlists with their friends through the wall.
Very inspiring work guys. Keep rockin' hard ;)

What's next for The Message 2.0

After spending a few hours on setting up the blog and twitter pages and the basic automation between them I decided to rest for a couple of days, to let myself think it over. After all, there's much more than the technical issues at hand, or at least that's what I think ;).

So, there are a few things I've come up with, which I expect to guide the near future development of this research:
First of all, I've decided to start posting some full blog articles instead of just short posts. Twitter is good enough for microblogging as it is and I don't see any reason to run 2 parallel microblogs - Blogger should be used for a wider format, rich with information, media and insight, while Twitter should be used as a front page where headlines are published and through which follower communications are done.
I'm considering posting some song and artist information, along with my listening habits from last.fm using the blog for detailed information and http://twt.fm/ for integration between last.fm and Twitter. I haven't decided about that one yet.
I would like to replace blogger comments with Twitter discussions, using a unique hash tag for each post discussion. I will try to locate an out of the box solution for this. DISQUS maybe?
Beyond that, I'm looking for other interesting tools, especially mashups at the moment, that could add some more juice to this.
Final note, and not less important. I think Twitter should be a catalyst and traffic maker for the blog, and so I will try to invest some energy in crowd building technics. Since this isn't a commercial blog, I can allow myself to experiment freely in this area and I hope this will yield interesting results, which could shed some light on the Twitter crowd building process.
On top of all this, since full articles are going to be posted on Blogger, I will invest some energy in SEO technics, in order to get traffic from Google as well. That way, I expect the blog, along with Twitter to make a complete web publishing solution and feed each other. My past experience with SEO shows that this may be problematic on Google's end, since the sites will actually be cross-linked, but I hope traffic coming from Twitter will payoff and make up for that bad SEO habit.

TODO: Some technical issues that have to be taken care of quickly:
  • Post metadata design still breaks in IE browsers.
  • Follow me on Twitter button graphic isn't displayed for some reason. Upload to photobucket instead of BlogSpot.

Initial blogger and twitter page designs complete

Well, to conclude the 1st day:
  • The Message 2.0 on Twitter - initial design done.
  • The Message 2.0 on Blogger - initial design done.
  • TwitterFeed updates the Twitter page every half an hour with up to 5 Blogger posts

    • It's still using tinyurl instead of bit.ly for some unknown reason - TODO: fix ASAP fixed.

  • Default Blogger widgets were removed and the Twitter badge imported instead.
  • IE8 breaks the post bottom layout. TODO: redesign metadata section for each post.
It's a basically working system. Time to explore further.

How to create web 2.0 text logos

This cool tutorial has given me the blog title with the Twitter-like look.

The font is TwitterU.
Currently trying to figure out how to host the 700x123 image on blogger without shrinkage. I uploaded the image to blogger through a post, but it has resized it to 640x122. Very strange behavior.
